If you buy a bag of Peanut M&M’s from the vending machine, it costs $.75 and you get 18 M&M’s… roughly 4 cents per M&M.
If you buy M&M’s from the gum-ball style candy dispenser, it costs $.25 and you get 9-10 M&M’s… roughly 2.5 cents per M&M.
I’m not saying it’s always a better deal to buy from the candy dispenser, and certainly you run the risk of stale candy. But in this instance, the vending machine is ripping you off.

I love peanut M&Ms. And that post is genius – who would have thought it? You should also examine the cost benefit of ‘fun-size’ M&M packs bought in bulk for Halloween. Come to think if it, I still have a lot of fun size candy left over from Halloween. Yum!

Funny that you should blog about the same thing I did … Did you see my post on this subject?
